We have worked in two distint areas of data mining : supervised learning(classification) and unsupervised learning (clustering). Both of these areasexploit the techniques of feature subset selection and discretisation ofcontinuous features. The attraction of this research area is that it can be developed in apartnership between a commercial organisation and a research institutionsuch as ours. To that effect, all our research in this area has been developedin collaboration with large organisations and has had a strong practicalcomponent. We have explored existing techniques, developed our owntechniques and successfully applied them to real commercial problems. Wehave some interesting publications in which we show our methods andresults, and compare them with other well known techniques.
